ADHD Focus Tools That Actually Work

After years of trying different productivity systems, I've found what works for my ADHD brain. Here's my honest roundup.

The Problem with Traditional Productivity

Most productivity advice is written for neurotypical brains. The "just make a list and do it" approach doesn't work when your executive function is fundamentally different.

What Actually Works

1. Body Doubling

Simply having someone present (even virtually) can help. I use Focus Timer with a body doubling partner.

2. Time Blocking with Flexibility

Instead of rigid schedules, I use "time boxes" with buffer time. If something takes 30 minutes, I block an hour.

3. The Two-Minute Rule (Modified)

For ADHD, I modify this: if it takes less than 2 minutes AND you're in the right headspace, do it now. Otherwise, it goes in my task board.

4. Environmental Design

  • Noise-cancelling headphones
  • Standing desk (helps burn off excess energy)
  • Blue light glasses for screen work

5. Our Neurodivergent Tools

We've built tools specifically for AuDHD brains:

  • Focus Timer with customizable intervals
  • Task Board with simple kanban
  • Energy Tracker to work with your natural rhythms

Conclusion

The best tool is the one you'll actually use. Don't force yourself into systems that don't fit your brain.
